I believe this pendant to be Petrified Wood that has been polished and encased in a gold wire. The wire is not marked gold but this is a piece of jewelry from the 1950s and could very well be real gold encasing this irregular diamond shaped multicolor stone. The stone measures 2 1/2 inches long by 1 1/2 inch wide. I echoed the browns, black and maroon tones in the pendant with the station beads I chose. Because of the size of the pendant, I chose larger beads that would complement this unusual little treasure. Be sure there is not another necklace like this one. I have echoed the wire encasement with a bent wire bead holding the big faceted black jet vintage bead (1 inch long) with a small honey beige glass bead on the other side. Then comes two maroon beads with a rhinestone collar bead and a very unusual maroon faceted crystal in a semi-square shape. A brown long plastic faceted bead from a 1960s necklace comes next and then two lengths of large link black unusual chain set off with a similar shape gold tone chain for the clasp. The entire chain measures a full 26 inches BUT it can be shortened by clasping further down on the links. This is a one of a kind stone and a one of a kind design. I carefully put together my mood board when choosing the right heft, texture and color to enhance this necklace.

This is a piece worthy of a museum collection. I believe the stone is petrified wood, possibly from the red wood forest in California. It was probably sold in a gift shop. I married it with large statement stones and beads that echo the colors in the pendant. It weighs 3.6 ounces so it is a substantial statement piece!
